What is a Bridge?

A bridge is a restoration, which closes spaces where one or more teeth have been lost. It consists of a crown on either side of a space with a fake tooth connected between them. Bridges are permanently cemented and do not come out.
Why do I need a bridge?
A tooth needs to be replaced not only for appearance but to maintain function as well. A bridge helps to keep the patient’s facial appearance and support the cheeks and lips. When a space exists after a tooth is lost, the neighbor teeth begin to shift into the space. This can result in excessive wear to the teeth, cavities, and periodontal problems.

The picture below is depicting teeth shifting.
