Nitrous Oxide or “Laughing Gas” is a calming gas that eases patient’s fears by decreasing the body’s perception to discomfort and enables many patients to handle the stress of lengthy dental appointments. It does not numb the mouth, so in some situations, anesthetics are still required. Laughing gas is inhaled through a mask over the patient’s nose. It is fast acting and subsides quickly after the dental appointment. It works very well for children.
Nitrous oxide effects:
- Mild tingling in your hands and feet.
- Warm sensations throughout your body.
- The feeling of drifting or floating.
- A disconnection from what is going on around you.
